Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was born in Russia and his parents were Ukrainian. His father became a wealthy landowner during World War I. He married in 1918 and shortly after had a baby with his wife. He lived through the Russian Civil War which him and his mom fought through survival. Some of the concepts and character of the Russian Revolution and World War led to his first novel August 1914Aleksandr studied Mathematics at Rostov State University. At the same time, he took courses of Literature and History at Moscow Institute of Philosophy. In February of 1945 he was arrested for writing derogatory comments in private letters to a friend. He was sentenced for an eight-year term at in a labour camp. In March of 1953 his sentence ended and he was sent to an internal exile for life. Finally, he died in August of 2008 because of an heart failure.
