As the title says, this book is One day in the life of the author. This happens in Russia while he is in a prison camp. They were very strict with the rules and prisoners were treated in very poor conditions. Alexander was arrested for several times and spread awareness for the the Gulag. All of these past experiences inspired him to write this book. It is a very slow story because it is only one day of his life in the prison camp. However, in my opinion his biggest inspiration was to tell his readers how life was at that moment. They were given small amounts of food in the prison camps. In addition, their government was very unfair to their people.
