The book A Day in The Life of Ivan Denisovich is based on a true story, however, as the title sugests it only tells one day of the story. The story that the book tells is set on the time of 1950s. In that time rules in Russia were very strict and harsh. The main character is in prison for a period of ten years for an accusation made against him (that he was actualy innocent). He was sent into a labor camp. One thing that I think inspired him to write the book was the fact of this experience bieng very marking and something that he would never forget. May be also because it was something that he wanted the rest of the world to see and know what it feels like to be in prison at that time.
