I selected this quote because this one line is like the introduction of the book. It deeply explains the situation in the begging. Reveille is a signal, as of a drum or bugle, sounded early in the morning to awaken military personal and to alert them for assembly. Which explains the whole situation of the main character. Just by reading this quote we could know that the main character is in a military. Also, by saying that he never overslept a reveille, it means that he is in a strict situation. It also explains that the character feels nervous every single day in the military.

I selected this quote because it shows the strictness and the harshness of the military and his situation at the moment. This line tells us that the main character is always aware of things thats happening around him. He seems to know all the rules, and how to follow them. Towards the begging of the book, it also said that he was always the first one to wake up. Which proves that he is hard working. It is mentioned that he has been in the military for 8 years, so he knows how things work in the military.

I really liked the quotes that you used. It really explained the character and their situation. The quotes also explained somewhat of what the whole book is about. So, good job!
ReplyDeleteI really think the line "Shukhov never overslept reveille (page 3)." shows his personality and how few free times he had which he can something for himself. Because he gets up at reveille to get time for himself, not to the authorities, before assembly. He has a tough life, but he try to make a little thing that he can enjoy his life. He also might be trying to live, not just survive.
