Connection Captain (Robert Gibbs)

Connection 1:

I think this relates to the story of the three musketeers. This is because when Senka did not leave Shukov behind it reminded me of what the three musketeers used to say one for all and all for one (which to means leave no man behind). And i thought it connected to story how all of the men would take the blame and not just one and they would always try to get the other men out of trouble. It does not only connect to Senka but also to the squad leader, how he would take the blame for the squad members.

Connection 2:

I think this connects to the army also. I think this connects to the army because of the strict rules and the limited ration. Of course the army is not so mean as to which they make the ration tiny but none of the less you still get rations and that connects to the book because they also get rations but not whenever they want, same as i believe on the battlefield when you have limited supplies till the next truck. The rules because the prisoners have to do every thing the guards say also like the commanders and captains in the army.

  1. On your first connection, I agree with you, because it shows that Shukov's group is united, they may be all in jail, but it doesn't mean that they can't be together and go through all these challenges as a group. On the second connection, I think you are right about everything, but except that on these chapters Shukov's group is practically starving, and by that it means that on the army they will not give you a lot of food, but will give you enough food so that you are not starving. And also in the Gulag's the prisoners are treated worse than on the actual army, because on the army you need to work together as a team, and on the Gulag you don't have too, but if it is needed for your survival, then it means that you should work as a group. Because on the army you are doing your duty, and on the Gulag, you are trying to survive.

  2. Robbie, I liked reading the subjects you had connected the book to, but I think you could have developed your ideas/used more examples. The reason for this is that I can find more situations in which your three musketeers connection holds true. An instance in which it is apparent is the moment in which Shukhov talked about why every prisoner worked and didn't slack off, that it was because the squad leader had to make a work report and it had to make the construction they did seem bigger or more efficient than it actually was. So, if the prisoner's worked fast and well then there was less responsibility and it would be easier for the squad leader to write a good report and therefore get more food for everyone. Overall though, you had a good post even though you could have had more information.
