1. How did historical events influence the ideas in the novel? What cultural issues may have influenced, challenged, or inspired the author?
The authot of the book, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, was also taken to a prison, where he was inspired to write this novel. He was unfairly taken to one of the prisons when he expressed his opinion to the leader of the Sovietic Union, Joseph Stalin. Just like Aleksandr, Ivan had to go to a prison too, and just like Aleksandr he was spired to do a novel about what happened during his time in the sovietic prison.
I chose this image because it represents Nelson Mandela, who was arrested, convicted of conspirancy to overthrow the state, and sentenced to life imprisonment unfairly because he was leading a sabotage campaign against the government.

ReplyDeleteI really liked your post, and I agree with what you mentioned about that he got inspired to write this book after having gone to prison, I think that most of the things that he mentions in his book such as the way that the main character started his day actually happened during Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's time in prison. And I also think that like Aleksandr, the books protagonist didn't deserve to go to prison.

ReplyDeleteGreat post! I agree with what you said about how the author connects his experiences and writes a novel about them. In my opinion, I think that's what makes the novel so rich in content and description. From the pages I've read, I notice that it's extremely descriptive, and your post made me wonder how much of those descriptions are really true. Also, I really liked how you chose an image of Nelson Mandela, of when he was imprisoned unfairly, it really sets the mood of a good person being treated unfairly.
