This image represents unfairness. What this image is trying to portray is that some people get more than they need and others get less than what they deserve. This applies to the book because the government had so much, but they wanted more. They put Shakhov in the camp unfairly because they must've seen him as a threat. Once he got out of that horrible camp, Aleksandr decided to not let society control him, he wrote the novel about his experience and how unfair life is. The novel "A Day In the Life of Ivan Desnisovich" really challenged society, showing a different aspect of life. I imagine that Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was a man who didn't have much, but he didn't let anybody tell him what he was capable of.
